  1. because if there wasnt one it would affect the world economy greatly.

  2. It saves heaps of time and money on shipping.

  3. If the canal wasnt threre they would have to go all the way through Argentina and cross to there (which is dangerous and time consumming)  The other option would be land..again time consumming.  Panamas location is in the middle of the world and pefect location for commerce and traiding.

  4. To ship goods from Atlantic to Pacific ocean and back. By ship things that are too large for an airplane.

  5. If it wasn't there, ships would have to travel all the way around South America to get from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.

  6. The Panama Canal is the only sea route open to cargo-carrying ships through the middle Americas.  Otherwise, to not have to go all the way down around the tip of South America to get from the Atlantic to the Pacific or vice-versa, the only other option is dropping cargo off on one coast, trucking it, then putting it on another ship on the other coast.  It is a major time, labor, and money saver.

  7. Location, location, location.Just think about it,almost everything we buy has made it's journey through there.
