Ive been on WIC since my baby was born, they have given me 9 cans of Similac Advanced everymonth and for the first 2 months it was enough but now that my baby is drinking 6 oz bottles he goes through the formula within 2 weeks and Im stuck buying formula for 2 weeks until his vouchers are active. Am I suppose to contact Wic if the baby is eating more ? or is there a limit to how much formula they will give someone within a month, Im still trying to figure out how the program works.

I did go up to the office 2 weeks ago for new vouchers but it was all the same, 9 can for the month until September

  1. there is a limit .....sorry

there is one of those formula sites that give away some but it's not the same and i don't know if they still do it check out the enfamil lipil website and see if you can get more formula

  2. I'm on Wic also, and there is a limit. But dont give the baby cereal, that will make it overweight and could even cause it to choke.  What I use to do when my son was on formula and he ran out was call the doctor's office and ask to speak with the nurse, then ask the nurse if she has some sample cans of formula-the same kind he drinks- that I can come get until my voucher kicks into effect.  That usually would hold us over and I wouldn't have to spend extra money.  If it got really bad and this didn't work, or the nurse didn't have any cans, then I would go to the wholesale club and buy a huge can of formula or buy 2-25oz cans for like 20bucks of the offbrand, my son didn't know the difference, and it would save me money!

  3. There is a limit, which is what you get. Be glad he isn't using the one that $30+ a can. That was killing us some months.

You could ask you pediatrician if he has coupns or even write the manufactor. They some times have the buy get one, coupons.

  4. No, they can only give you 9 cans.  It will get better though by 4-6 months when you begin introducing solids, his milk intake should then go down.  In the meantime call 2-1-1 and ask for resources on where you can get formula.  Also, try freecycle and craigslist for free or cheap formula.

Also, register with Similac company or if your baby can drink the other formula too, also register with enfamil and nestle.  They will send you samples (whole cans) and formula checks.  Register any family or friends that are willing as well.  When you register say the baby will be born in 2 months, because you will get more.  Also, do not say you are on WIC and do not say you will be formula feeding, instead say you are undecided because they will give you more.

Also, ask your pediatrician if he can give you formula sampls.  Tell him your situation and he may hook you up like my baby's pediatrician did.  She gave me over 10 cans of formula once and everytimeI asked she usually gave me a case (6 cans).

    Hope this helps you

  5. Give that baby some cereal in his formula !

I had a cool doctor that use to write me prescriptions for formula when that happened to me . I have 4 kids now. trust me , the cereal works !
