WICB Chief pays tribute to the Windies team - Cricket News Update

President of West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Dr http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Julian-Robert-Hunte-c69628, has paid rich tributes to the West Indian team for recording an emphatic 9-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Antigua.
The WICB Chief said that Sunday’s victory would serve as a milestone that will go a long way in the development of cricket in the Caribbean.
“This outstanding victory is another significant marker along the road of the redevelopment of West Indies cricket,” said Dr Hunte
“I wish to offer the Board’s sincerest congratulations to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 and the entire coaching staff,” Dr Hunte lauded.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 since the Barbados Test in
1996.
In a bid to be recognised as a major team in international cricket, the Windies have made impressive progress recently – at home - which includes a hard-fought drawn ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. Their form away from home has been patchy though, including
a lean period against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 recently.
However, the  inclusion of Sunil Narine and star batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 has made the difference in the current series with the hosts enjoying an upper hand, a fact, which was also acknowledged by the WICB chief.
“While, as Coach Gibson observed, the victory was a total team effort I must make specific mention of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KAJ-Roach-c1758 for his second
innings five wicket haul,” Dr Hunte observed.
After a disappointing Test debut against England, Narine made a remarkable comeback against the Kiwis, picking up 8 wickets in the match including his maiden Test five-for, which also earned him the Digicel Player-of-the-Match award.
Kieran Powell also had a poor English tour and was subsequently dropped from the ODI squad, but the 22-year-old batsman responded with match winning knocks against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 A, and after being recalled into the Test squad, the youngster rewarded the selectors
with a maiden Test century.
On the other hand, Gayle has continued his successful return at the international level, scoring 150 and 64* in his first Test match in 18 months.
The hosts will look forward to carry on with their form in the final match of the series, which will be played in Kingston, Jamaica starting from Aug 2.
