WICB allows Chris Gayle to play in KFC Big Bash T20
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board has allowed former West Indies captain Chris Gayle to play in the KFC Big Bash T20 tournament that will be held in December. The move comes a month after Gayle had refused
to sign a central contract with the WICB and the board had warned that they may not provide the players a no-objection certificate to play in domestic T20 tournaments around the world.
However, this will mean that Gayle will miss out on playing for his own domestic side, Jamaica, in West Indies’ T20 tournament that will be held around the same time as the Big Bash.
Gayle was signed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 last year but could play only two games before an injury put him out of the tournament.
Happy at being allowed to play by the WICB, Gayle said that he will look to continue from where he had left off last season.
"It was unfortunate that injury prevented me from playing the entire KFC Big Bash last year, but the West Australian public were very friendly and really welcomed me as a member of the Warriors squad,"
he told reporters.
He also added that he will look to assist the side to qualify for the Champions League T20. The winner and the runner-up of the KFC Big Bash T20 qualify for the Champions League T20. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859
had made it to the CLT20 last year.
The KFC Big Bash will be played between 30 December and 5 February which will run concurrently with the Caribbean T20 that will be played in January. However, the president of the Jamaica Cricket Association,
Paul http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Campbell-c49176 said that while it was sad to not have Gayle play in the tournament, he said it was a sign that players would be more willing to seek out more lucrative contracts and skip out on their own country' matches.
Speaking to a newspaper, the
Jamaica Observer, Campbell said: "It is not about loyalty. We now need to move our mindset of understanding the professional landscape as it relates to players and administration. We can't take emotional positions. It can't be on a basis where if he
doesn't make himself available this time you can't or won't select him at another time. We have to move away from that."
