The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board (WICB) has assured its complete support to the off-spinner Shane Shillingford who was suspended from the bowling in the international cricket by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday for an ‘illegal’
bowling action. The WICB expects its 27-year-old spin bowler to bounce back soon.
The Dominican off-spinner was reported for a suspected illegal bowling action at the end of the drawn Galle Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 on November 20 by the whole panel of umpires for the match including the on-field match referees Steve Davis
and Richard Kettleborough, together with the TV umpire Asad Rauf, and fourth umpire Tyron Wijewardena.
The bowler was then given a time limit of 21 days to undergo an independent analysis of his bowling action conducted by a member of the ICC panel of human movement specialists
Shillingford underwent the required test and on Tuesday, the ICC confirmed that the independent Test has found his bowling action "illegal" and has suspended him from bowling in the international cricket until his action was modified.
Ernest Hilaire the chief executive of West Indies Cricket Board confirmed that the board has received the report on Shillingford’s bowling action and opined that the board will consult the experts and devise a suitable plan of action to
ensure suspended off-spinner’s come back to the international cricket in the shortest possible time.
"The WICB and the Team Management Unit remain confident in his ability to perform at the highest level and see this latest development as a challenge which has been placed before him," the WICB CEO added further.
Shillingford’s bowling action had come under scrutiny during A-team assignments as well but he modified it before he was called in for the home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
"Shane is a tough cricketer who arrived on the international stage via the difficult route after years of toil on the regional circuit, we have no doubt that he will emerge from this test of his character," said Hilaire.
The Dominican off-break bowler - who made his Test cricket debut against South Africa in Port of Spain in June this year and is yet to debut in ODIs - can now seek a re-evaluation after he has modified his bowling action in accordance with
clause 2.4 of the policy for the appraisal of bowlers reported with an alleged illegal bowling actions.
