WICB formulates 2011-16 development plan for Caribbean Cricket
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board (WICB) has devised a 5-year development plan to perk up the standard of domestic and national cricket.
The board aims at reaching out to the maximum possible cricketing talent.
Team West Indies’ lackluster World Cup campaign and defeat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in recently played ODI series have raised serious concerns among the national cricket management ranks, calling for change and improvement.
The Chief Executive Officer of WICB, Dr Ernest Hilaire, called on a meeting at the National Cricket Center today, to discuss his development plan. The meeting continued for three hours.
The focal point of the plan is to provide financial and logistical facilities to the domestic teams in order to gain quality feed for the national side.
As per the policy, West Indies A and Under-19 teams are to be trained and given more opportunities to play at home and abroad so that some brilliant players can be prepared for the senior teams.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Hilaire said, “We will have physios and trainers just like the West Indies team so there http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Willey-c81951 be a seamless transition to the next step.”
The plan also includes a ‘Youth Test’ strategy under which, some U-19 teams will be set up to play 5-day games. This will help the players to learn professional cricket at the very grassroots level.
Hilaire told, “We want to have the same programmes for all teams. All other member countries have Youth Test matches. We want to make it a feature of the Under-19s.”
The CEO revealed that they had asked all the domestic teams to produce some quality pacers as the national side is lacking pace strength.
Some other features of the plan are as follows:
To set up an independent High Performance Centre (HPC) in every territorial board that will work in coordination with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Main-c73911 HPC in Barbados.
Creating balance between incomes and spending of all territorial boards and Implementation of a fair and meritorious selection policy.
The Secretary North Zone of Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Pierre Martel was also present in the meeting. He came up with the suggestion to introduce advance sports technology in the country.
Analysts believe that if the plan is implemented properly, Caribbean cricket will gain momentum within years.
