WICB regional one-day tournament: Day 1 roundup
On the opening day of the WICB regional one-day tournament, Trinidad & Tobago and Windward Islands prevailed in their matches of the day earning 4 points apiece.
Trinidad and Tobago defeated the Combined Campuses and Colleagues by eight wickets at the Kensington Park, Jamaica while rain helped Windward Islands in their upset against Jamaica, as the side won the opener by 10 runs according to
the Duckworth http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lewis-c72807 method.
Darren Bravo of Trinidad and Tobago struck the first century of this season's WICB regional one-day tournament to set up his side for an eight-wicket victory against Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) on Thursday.
Bravo, who had come to the crease at No. 3 after the dismissal of his older brother Dwayne with only 17 on the board, plundered six lofty sixes during his belligerent knock of 104 runs from 121 deliveries. Bravo cruised to his century
looting left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daren-Ganga-c52410 to pull off the target
of 201 with more than seven overs to spare and 8 wickets intact.
Combined Campuses and Colleagues nearly had a centurion as well but star-crossed Floyd Reifer lost his wicket just one behind a ton after being caught by Mohammed off Kieron Pollard's beautiful delivery.
Reifer's input was the only one of note in Combined Campus and Colleagues's innings, though the skipper Romel Currency tried his absolute best to support Reifer's effort forging a three-digit stand with an individual tally of painstaking
49 off 104 deliveries.
Both the partners took the side comfortably to 138 for 3 easing CCC’s nerves but the excitement was short-lived as the seamers of Trinidad and Tobago, Ravi Rampaul and Kieron Pollard, scythed through the opposition’s middle order restricting
them to 200 for 8 at the end of their allotted 50 overs.
Ravi Rampaul finished with 4 for 36 from his quota of ten overs while Kieron Pollard claimed two wickets off the solitary over bowled by him conceding only 5 runs.
Windward Islands’ task of upsetting tournament favourites Jamaica at the Trelawny Stadium was helped by the ankle injury to Jamaican captain, Chris Gayle, and rain. The ankle injury forced the skipper to retire hurt
on 0, with the side on 16, and he had to watch his men lose wickets, in their struggle to gain momentum, while sitting in the dressing room.
Gayle returned to the crease with 134 for 4 on the board and struck a whirlwind 58 off 38 balls with the help of four sixes and four boundaries as the side was able to post a respectable 50-over total of 223.
Devon Smith and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johnson-Charles-c69060 started Windward Islands’ run chase reasonably well compiling 65 runs by the 15th over before showers intervened. The game was resumed after two hours and a revised target of 113 runs was given to the
Windward side from 25 overs, leaving them just 48 runs behind the winning line off ten overs with all their wickets intact.
The visitors resumed the chase at 66 for 0 and soon fell to 85 for 5 in less than five overs. Smith kept his wicket and was not out for 42 when rain interrupted their chase for a second time at the end of 20th over. The
umpires, after inspecting the weather conditions, ruled it was not appropriate to continue the game. The D/L calculations revealed that Windward Islands were 10 runs ahead.
