  1. It may change it but i dont think it will be destroyed.  The companies just needs to come up with things that supports green living.

  2. World War II and the so-called "Space Race" brought vast technological advances which in turn provided a deep economic boost.  I think the same will happen as we shift to a more sustainable lifestyle.

There will be a lot of faddish stuff glomming onto the sincere green lifestyle.  But sustainability, being green, doesn't have to hurt the economy or drag it down.

We're years away from retirement, but are gearing up to build an eco-friendly home known as an "EcoNest," which is local clay-straw-timber. It will be challenging to find the materials locally but we are confident we can do it.  This week we're putting in wood flooring in our current home that is "green." We paid more for it, but my theory has long been that we as consumers can help drive the market by chosing to spend our hard-earned money on the right things.

    This is right for us.

And so we will support businesses that we feel are conscientious in the way they do business.  We will work to become better informed on our options.  Trying to research "green" paint was enlightening, but that's part of the process, I suppose.  You learn by doing.

  3. I think the only reason it would is because of corruption. Gas companies made 32 billion in profit the first 3 months of this year. It takes 600 lbs or 8 bushels of corn to make ethanol and putting the fuel mixture in your car cuts your mileage by 22% plus it takes 27% more fossil fuel to make ethanol. Plus the farmers are making 51cents a gallon in kickbacks. When do we "the public" win?

Bush just met with the saudis that said supply was good yet today wallstreet said "supply was in question" and the price went even higher. The rich are getting richer... pretty simple on that one.

    Good question!

  4. We are still NOT going "green" today and look at our economy right now...so what would make you think green living wouldnt be a good solution?

  5. Anything that changes anything will upset some businesses.

Green living may cost a bit more money to live in as profligate a lifestyle, so if we continue to consume as much, we would expect more money to be changing hands, more money being made.

But what is going to hurt the economy is the rising cost to get energy. This one fact has little to do with living green, other than that Green Living advocates have been warning about this for a long time. If they had not been warning us, we would still be seeing rising costs of getting energy.

Finding ways to get around the high cost of energy, to do more with less, appears to be nothing but sound economics. We avoid higher costs or we go under completely.

We will have a hard time keeping clear in our minds what effects are from people going green and what effects are from higher costs of energy, since there will be no way to evaluate why people are doing what.

For example, in 1978 we built a low cost house that heats itself from the sun, with just a few branches from the trees burned in  the evenings.

That was a Green initiative. But have I spent less into the economy because I have spent far less on heating the house? Not at all. What has changed is that I have not bought foreign oil to heat my house.

Has that hurt the economy? The fact that I am not using that fuel means that I am doing less to  push up the cost of fuel for everyone else, so they have more money to spend in other ways.

The economy will have to adapt to higher energy costs. It will have to devise ways to get better use of fuel used just to be able to continue.

    Is that a green-caused problem?

  6. Some businesses and people will be angry for this descion but it will save more money for EVERYHTING.  People get mad because you won't be buying there products that are bad for the earth

  7. Only for the working people

Those who draw a welfare check, wont mind

Those who work for the government wont mind

Those who live off tax payers grant money (enviromental scientist) won't mind

Those who live off fool's money, Sierra Club, environmental defense fund, won't mind

China will LOVE it, India will LOVE it the EU will LOVE it

But the working family,  is screwed.
