I'm a Wallace and would have been proud to know this man ! He stood up for his country and what he believed in and died for it. How many of you would do the same ?

  1. William Wallace would have slaughtered me for not being Scottish I think.

  2. I agree with Gavin.  The legend of William Wallace, as related by Robert Burns, is enough to win me over to his genius and valor.  Although the film is extremely wrong in many parts, Wallace did stand up to the Scottish nobles who had sold out Scotland to the English for centuries.  At the real Battle of Stirling Bridge, he hid most of his men, and allowed half ot the English to cross the bridge.  Then he attacked, splitting Edward I's forces in two.  Absolute military finesse!

As for the above answerers who call him a sellout - I notice that they did not explain or back-up the allegations.  Anyone can throw out a word.  But can you prove it?

  3. The film is just Hollywood glorification and not a true reflection of the man and his actions. Don't believe the hype.

  4. no proof william wallace ever had any children

  5. Whatever the truth, he ultimately failed to secure Scottish independence in the long term, as King Edward I of England (called the 'Hammer of the Scots') successfully destabilised the Scottish Government, and held undue influence over the country for decades as a result.

The film Braveheart, which first brought Wallace to prominence outside of Scotland (and with it a new wave of Scottish Anglophobia), most prominent factual error is the suggestion that Wallace sired Edward III, who was born seven years after his death, through a romance with Isabella of France, a ten-year-old child at the time of his death whom he never met. Additionally, the nickname "Braveheart" originally referred to Robert the Bruce, not Wallace. Furthermore, William Wallace and, future king, Robert Bruce never actually met and were fighting effectively on different sides. Wallace was fiercely loyal to King John Balliol while Robert Bruce upheld his own claim to the Scottish throne.

  6. Yeah, Sure! Just love his mate Gromit as well !

If he was such a moral bloke why did he go to that S&M Club in London?

Hey Gavin C. Claymore? Bit old-fashioned aren't you?

Blowing yerself up is all the rage now!

    Happy Hogmonay!

  7. GLOBAR - it wasn't Wallace who sold out his country -

They will never take our *FREEDOM*

William Wallace - The Real Deal

  8. Rock on wallace!

  9. He was the ultimate hero in my eyes. I would die for Scotland too, but I doubt I'll ever get the chance to. This man was a shining example of what we need more of these days.

I'm immensley proud of the fact my ancestors fought and died at Culloden in 1746 under the banner of the Farquharsons, trying to finish what Wallace started centuries before.

I'm an Aberdonian now living in New York but I'd be back there in a shot if a third Jacobite rebellion started tomorrow. I know its the 21st century but I'd have no qualms about cleaving some English skulls with a claymore

Just joshin, Merry Christmas ye filthy animals !

  10. Have you been watching that pile of shite with Mel Gibson in it?  Hint:  Its not accurate.

  11. We don't know a lot about him but he certainly led the Scots against the English invaders but was let down at the end.

He stands for the Scottish spirit and the sense of identity still in every Scottish person's blood.  Cha togar m'fhearg gun dioladh (Wha daur meddle wi me?)

Wallace might not have been ultimately successful but fought and died trying to defeat a much bigger enemy.

That's why we remember him and his spirit lives on - that's why many Scots still want independence.

  12. I thought he sold out his country check it out...

  13. he was a right Basta*d not the nice guy in the film sorry Steven and a bit player in a much larger peice of history
