WIPSA to be renamed to WSA from January 2012 – Squash News
Squash is going through major changes and this time women squash is renamed by the Women International Squash Players’ Association (WIPSA) to Women Squash Association (WPA). The alteration will take effect from January 1st,
2012.
Rapidly changing world requires quick decision making personalities on top positions to keep pace with time and squash seems to have found the best fit as the top management is always thinking to bring in innovation that will enhance
the viewership of the game.
Chairman and acting CEO of WIPSA, Ingrid Lofdahl-Bentzer said: “The new name will make women’s squash a much more distinct brand, further enhancing our marketing potential for sponsors. The next two years are very important for
squash. Our game is now truly global, television coverage of the World Series with our friends at PSA has improved dramatically giving us exciting new audiences and the Olympic decision for 2020 is pending. It’s exciting; we can’t wait for the challenge.”
There are already 70 tournaments that are played throughout the year across 5 continents of the world encompassing around 400 participants from all across the globe. The name change will be followed by a newly designed logo as
well. This decision was taken at the Annual General Meeting of WIPSA during Rotterdam tour.
The first tournament that will be played under the new name will be contested in the suburbs of United States of America that will feature one of the best squash players of the world including the Malaysian World No.1, Nicol David,
who recently won her sixth consecutive Hong Kong title.
WIPSA will continue to host the leftover tournaments of this year under the old name but all the tournaments that will be played next year will be contested under the new name and new logo. The new website will also be designed
with a new outlook that will be much more informative and attractive.
The new advancements will definitely upgrade the old fashioned outlook of squash especially women squash that doesn’t have the same following as other women sports like tennis. WIPSA hopes that this new name will bring new luck
with it that will proliferate the following of women squash in all continents.
