WIRE TRANSFER ? can be a scam ? read my story please?

so i started a company , i had to purchase a product ( for ressale) that it is coming from europe. he manufacturer has an office in USA .. so they told me.. you will pay 30 days net if you met the credit requirments. Being new business i did not met the rquirments

Now he want 50 % in advance to an account via wire transfer.

how safe is for me to send the money ? what are my risks

how i will know that the money they will go to the company and not to his account ..

What does that spell? It spells out that you'd have to be a moron to hand money over via wire transfer in this day and age.
