Okay well, I went to the oral surgeon today for a consultation for my wisdom teeth. I had to do an x-ray and then he was explaining how the surgery would go. He said that since my wisdom teeth are under the bone, he'll have to use a drill =\ Very nervous about that!! And He said that there is a chance that the drill could put a hole in something with my nasal cavity or something like that and if that does happen and I drink something it will come out my nose. And he also told me that on the 2 bottom wisdom teeth he could hit something and make the whole bottom of my face numb =\

Do oral surgeons tell everyone that or am I just one of the unlucky people that it could happen to??

By the way: I am getting Laughing Gas!!! Woohoo!!

  1. well i just got mine taken out last week,& you dont feel a thing for about...10-12 hrs because your face will be so frozen.

but if you do all the proper things your dr says than it will also making the bruising & swelling lesser :)

    hope that helps?

  2. O_O Uh, when I got my teeth out last summer the doctor didn't say anything about that. Normally they would wait until they are closer to the surface to take them out I would think... I was out for my surgery, I got the nitrous before though : D I would maybe look for another surgeon...I switched surgeons because one of them wanted to charge a ridiculous amount for it.

  3. Um never heard of that before but im 14 and about 3 weeks ago i had to get 6 teeth pulled out and my two wisdoms at the bottom were coming in sideways so they cut above my jawline to get them out.. I was put to sleep but when your done your face will probably be numb for abut 12 hours.Hope i helped a little.. but dont worry

  4. Just you, sounds like fun.

For me, they had to break some of them and pull them out in little bits.

My lower jaw was numb for a few weeks, it's caused by irritating the nerves that go through your jaw. The good thing is that your nerves will heal in time.

Have them put you out - completely out.

  5. OMG! that sounds really scary, don't worry no matter what during the surgery do not move! if the thing with your nose happens you can go see someone and they could help you or whenever you drink put your head up and breath in very strongly with your nose it won't taste the greatest but it'll help but don't worry your dentist is probobly a proffessional so it'll probobly work out and if not you'll always find out something I wish you the best of luck and warm regards

  6. Hi Jackie

    Laughing gas is way woohoo.

I had a dentist tell me the same thing about 10 years ago - that I needed to see an oral surgeon and have my wisdom teeth removed from beneath bone.

I didn't - and its been 10 years with no trouble and no movement of my teeth.

I would hesitate to have this (or any other) surgery unless pain was an issue.

    Good luck!

  7. They need to tell you the risks of the procedure. They told me the same thing. I was put under anesthesia for mine.
