WISKEY and BEER?

I have seen some beer with alcohol of 6.6%, and there is whiskey that has 80 proof, and even 101 proof.Let's say if I just drink one ounce of 80 proof of whiskey, did I drink 80 proof then, or do I have to drink all to get 80 proof ? Just like beer with 5%...you can drink half of the can, and only get a small buzz, and drinking all of it you get a better buzz. I know the more you drink the more you feel it.

So help me on this.

  1. If you take the proof amount and divide it in 1/2 you'll get

the % alcohol by volume.  So if your drinking a 5% 12oz bottle of beer and throw in a (2oz) shot of 80 proof whiskey

(= 40% alcohol by volume) you'll get drunk faster.  Be careful, alcohol takes a little time to catch up to you so if you do several hard shots in a row you can get sick/drunk really fast before you know it (or worse, alcohol poisoning can be very unforgiving).

  2. the 80 proof is refering to the amount of alcohol per serving (oz). and just like she states above the more you drink the more your getting closer to praying to the porcelin god.

  3. Every sip you take is 80 proof, just like with beer every sip you take is 5 percent. The reason you get more buzzed is becuase you are consuming more every time you drink.

  4. the proof of an alcohol is twice the percentage of alcohol.  80 proof whiskey is 40% alcohol by volume.  the percentage is the percent of alcohol in the liquid and can be applied to even a drop.  if you drink one beer 6.6% percent of it was alcohol, but 6.6% of 1 sip of the same beer is alcohol.
