Question:

WIll Frank Clair be restored or is the destruction of the south lower tier part of an effort to kill it?

I read that the lower southern tier of Frank Clair stadium was cracked and was demolished. I did not find anything about replacement of that part of the stadium. Does anyone have news about that?

I had read that a lot of rich developers want Frank Clair torn down to use the land for expensive commericial and residential development and that CFL fans obviously are fighting them. Add in a typical Canadian city that has a lot of people scream hysterically about not investing in stadiums and it looks kind of dicey IMO.

The CFL seems to want to expand to 10 teams and add a team in Moncton when it adds Ottawa (or soon after) to avoid scheduling 9 teams.

Moncton is building an 18K stadium when the CFL needs 25-30K seating for viability long term.

What happens to expansion if Ottawa tears down Fank Clair? Does the CFL bother with Moncton or is it more waiting?

  1. I would think that stadium has a few more days left (after being a venue for the under 20 world cup).

They always say they're going to tear down the Metrodome in Minneapolis, but they never do.

Don't stadium issues and controversies just bug you? I'm sure Frank Clair is fine just as the Metrodome is fine. People just want state of the art all the time and are not willing to pay. Ugh!

  2. If it isn't restored, then chances of building a 30,000-seat stadium from scratch in 24 months aren't great. And where else is there land, other than out in the suburbs. Football out in the open fields and expressways of Nepean or Kanata would not be the same as an idyllic canal and trees setting in the older part of Ottawa

  3. Because Jeff Hunt I believe has purchased the land, it would be likely that he'd build the stadium there or near there. Parts of it have been considered unsafe and therefore it cannot be used at this time. Chances are the rebuilding, which is a condition for Ottawa to receive the expansion team, will be a gradual process. There will be enough in place for them to begin play in 2009 or 2010, and then following the season there will be additional boxes or tiers added to it.

Keep in mind that this stadium was built and used mainly before having a large number of boxes was a necessity. They would have wanted to do some altering to the stadium regardless of what the building code had decreed. I can't see them really moving from the Lansdowne Park area at least...I know someone mentioned Kanata but that's well out of the way. There's only one highway that takes you out there and it's always crammed for miles en route to the Senators games. If they want to try and sell this product (again) they'll need it to be in a close and convenient area for those in the Greater Ottawa area, and Lansdowne Park, with its rich football history, would seem to be the place to put it, even if it takes an extra year or so to get the stadium pieces in place.

  4. id be surprised if the Celtics DIDNT win the championship

  5. To Bo Sox Beast what does the Celtics have to do with canadian football? And to aswer the question I heard they was going to tear down the south stands and rebuild them.I also heard the only way that Ottawa could get a CFL team is if they can settle the stadium issue that is why it is a conditional expansion franchise.
