In order to get federal loans you must be enrolled at least Half time. Pell and SMART grants are dependent on enrollment time and you cannot get SMART grant unless you quailfy for Pell. You must be Full time for SMART and Pell decreases by the amount of time your taking.

Example: Fulltime = 100% Halftime = 50% of grant

I agree with the above post. I got about 1000 dollars for taking 2 classes (6 credits) my first semester.

As long as those 2 classes equal "half-time" in credit hours - which is  at least 6 credit hours in a term or 12 clock hours per week.  If so, (and if you meet the other requirements) you should still qualify for a portion of the Pell Grant.
