i went through collegeboard.com and found out the very important admission factors is the character/personal qualities. regardless of the sat scores and the extracurricular activities and the interview and the class rank and the recommendation, can a student get in with a gpa of a 3.0?

  1. I think you have got a wrong impression on college admission and you are particularly wrong about the schools like MIT.

No. 1 important factor to be admitted by a school like MIT is your academic performance.  This includes SAT, high-school transcript, GPA, class ranking, and extracurricular activities in math and science.

Just to be good is certainly not enough. You have to be more than excellent in all these.

  2. The probability would be VERY low.
