Telus recently sent me a siemens wireless modem/router. I have hard wired it to my tower and the modem works fine. One of the ports on the back is labelled WLAN. I checked the manual but it doesn't explain what this for or how to hook up anything to it. I am currently plugged into the #3 ehternet port but am puzzled about what this WLAN is for.

  1. you take the ethernet cable from your cable modem, dsl modem, etc. And then plug it in to the WLAN port on the router then after that you plug in computers and such into the other ports. Good Luck!!

  2. you plug your cable modem in there (or dsl).  otherwise you won't have an internet connection.

If the modem and router is one unit, you really don't need the WLAN port though.  It would be used if you wanted to connect another router to that, or something.  Really it's only used in advanced configurations, in your case.

  3. the wlan port is a routed port.  if you ever decide to change carriers or et up a new modem, you would plug the new modem into the wlan port and your other computers into the other ports
