WNBA Finals: Minnesota Lynx vs. Atlanta Dream Game-2 Preview
Minnesota Lynx and Atlanta Dream have proven that they deserve to be the best in their respective conferences. However, the battle of supremacy in the entire league reaches an important juncture on Wednesday night, as the Dream
take on the Lynx in the game-2 of the WNBA finals.
Last time when the two sides met, Lynx blew the game open in the fourth quarter to draw the first blood. Rebekkah Brunson was in imperious touch that night, finishing with 26 points. Will she and the Lynx again prevail at home
or will Angel McCoughtry and the Dream get a pivotal road win on Wednesday night and tie up the WNBA best-of-five final series?
Minnesota closed the regular season on a league-best 27-7 record. They crushed the San Antonio Silver Stars in the Western Conference semi-finals and then swept the Phoenix Mercury in the conference finals on the way to their first
WNBA final appearance.
The Dream, on the other hand, finished the season on a 20-14 record with third seed in the Eastern Conference. However, they have been here before. It is Atlanta’s second consecutive final appearance and to write them off just
yet would be a big mistake.
In the last game, there was little to separate between the two teams till the last 10 minutes. One thing however that came into the limelight was the role of the starters. For the Lynx, starters were a big factor in the win. Brunson,
Seimone Augustus, Lindsay Whalen and Maya Moore all landed double figures and combined to score 48 points.
For Dream though, it was not the case. McCoughtry tried her very best to steal the show, adding a game-best 33 points in the high-tempo matchup. The forward also grabbed five rebounds, stole the ball three times and blocked two
shots, but it was an off-night for forward Sancho Lyttle. The player who had averaged 11.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game in the conference finals, could not add even a single point, going 0 for 5 shots from the field.
This was what made the difference in the end. McCoughtry tried her best, but she was all alone against a group of players, who have been deadly in their march towards the WNBA glory. If Dream are to make an impact in game-2, they
have to find another scoring outlet. One player can’t do it all.
