  1. i thik the fight was a disgrace to womens basketball.... we are know as players of beauty and grace n who hold their composures.... well from looking at the prior play up to when the players left plus i was watching the ame from the 1st half.... cp started the whole thing... she let her emotions get the best of her... she know she a star so she cnt b doing stuff like dis... da fight was wak but exciting at da same time since it was da 1st 1 in wnba history.... da assistant coach was trying to stop lisa from jumping in the pile... ford... i truly feel sorry for her.... but like a said from waching the whole game it was a matter of holding ur feeling and candace parker did not do a good job of that n caused other pple to do the same....

  2. Plinette Pierson started it because they were battling for the rebound and Pierson fell and she decided to pull Parker down hard. So Pierson like a dummy gets up and tries to walk over Parker and parker still has some chi-town in her, So she tackles. To me that was not Parkers fault because Pierson was about to attack her so she defended herself and threw in an extra punch. I think what was wrong was to see Pierson attacking a rookie like that. But parker handled it like a lady she got up went back to the bench and didn't make a scene for the rest of the night. Yes she should have been ejected like it mattered because four seconds was left but blamed for starting it no thats out of the question.

  3. the whole thing started the play before the actual play that launced the fight ...candace and some ghetto thug named DeLisha were get tangled up...the refes should have thrown double techs then and cooled them off.

DeLisha started it when candace went to the floor and she walked up on her...anyway its about d**n time they had some action in the WNBA!

  4. pierson sorta ran into candace parker then hovered over her when she was getting up. even tho parker punched her i think it was pierson..but i think it was sorta cool lol

  5. this is old news.....get a life

  6. that's EASY...RICK MAHORN (even if he didn't he should get the blame for all of his on court THUGGERY as a Piston, kinda what goes around comes around - lol!!)...

  7. Actually the fight started on the previous play by Cheryl Ford when she fouled Parker. I am glad she took out Pierson. That is what she get for knocking down the best.

Candace is the best player in the league and is a shame that she has haters.

    CP3 for life.

  8. The fight started when Cheryl Ford tried to grab a rebound from Candace Parker. I think Cheryl was a little pissed she missed the shot that would have tied the game.

Cheryl and CP had to be separated as tensions rose. The refs should have given them both technical fouls and this would have never escalated.

After CP missed both free throws, LA got the rebound. Marie F. Harris made both free throws to give LA a 4 point lead.

CP was in the middle of two Shock players, one of which was Plenette Pierson. PP gave CP a little extra hip check during the rebound box out. Somehow, both players got tangled and hit the floor. I'm a CP fan but I think she gave PP a little extra back when she tried to get arm free of the entanglement and the momentum took them both to the floor.

Everything should be over with both players getting technicals. But, PP got up and walked towards CP and CP hooked PP around the ankles / shins and pulled her to the floor.

People mention CP throwing a punch before taking her down but I didnt see one, maybe I missed it?

Deanna Nolan, a Shock player, dived on CP after the PP hit the floor. Then the benches cleared.

If the refs would have called a few more fouls, this would never happened. I give them the first layer of  blame.

The second layer goes to the coaches for not keeping their players under control, especially the Shock. Pierson has a history of being a hot head (suspend from her college team - Texas Tech) and got into trouble in Phoenix with a teammate.

Plus, I was at the Sparks / Shock game in LA several weeks ago. Parker got bloody nose when going for an offensive rebound. Coop, Sparks coach, should have been mindful of this and help CP focused on the game and keep her emotions in check.

The third layer of blame is with Pierson. She should have never walked toward Parker when she got up. She went nuts when her teammates were trying to restrain her ultimately cost Cheryl Ford the season. Just dumb as a box of rocks, especially if these teams end up in the finals as predicted in the preseason.

I can't blame Parker for taking PP down when she was standing over her. I would have done the same thing. It was not reasonable to just sit there and take a beat from someone standing over you.

I do place blame with Parker for the extra push during rebound box out after the hip check.

There is plenty of blame to go around. It should mainly rest with the refs and Plenette Pierson. The refs should be retrained and suspended.

  9. Candace Parker lost her cool!!  Go to youtube and watch it.....Pierson of the Shock was blocking out Parker, on the free throw, anyone who knows basketball knows the importance of blocking out!  Not to mention that Detroit was down by only 3 points and could not afford to not get the rebound if the free throw was missed. (The play before that, Candace Parker had missed two free throws and the Spark had come up with a long rebound on the last miss).  Parker took offense to being blocked out, wrapped her right arm around Pierson and threw her to the ground.  Pierson was rightly pissed about it and went after Parker, talking trash all the way.  Parker threw a left hand punch at Pierson and grabbed her around the waist and threw her to the floor a second time.  That is when everything sort of hit the fan!!!

5'9" Deanna Nolan jumped Parker and took her down, Two Shock players(Ford and Hornbuckle) grabbed Pierson and dragged her to center court, where Ford twisted her Knee and had to be taken off in a wheel chair.

Ricky Mahorn was yelling at Lisa Leslie to "Get back, back off", and she tried to get around him (something that would take a jumbo jet to do!) and ended up running into his outstretched arms.  She hit the floor like she had been shot by a howlitzer but it was a bad acting job and no Acedemy Award will be needed!  Afterward she had the nerve to say that Mahorn pushed her down....what a joke, I was there at the game, she initiated the contact, by trying to get around Mahorn.

Lastly some brainless player(Milton-Jones) punched Mahorn in the back....after all of the grazing that he has obviously been doing, he just turned and looked at her like she was a fly pestering him!

Great game, the shock came back from 21 points down to make it a close game.  The WNBA will sell more tickets because of this than from any other promotion that they have ever run!!  I guess the old addage that, "any press is good press", certainly holds true to this one!

But the answer to your question is Candace Parker started it.  She was mad because Cherly Ford yanked the ball out of her hands on the play before this, she was even madder that she missed both free throws, and then she took it out on Pierson for doind what every basketball player has been taught to do since they first started to play the game.....you've got to box out!!!  Pretty girl deserves a big fine and a suspension, Pierson deserves a fine and suspension,  Milton-Jones deserves a fine and suspension, Nolan deserves a fine and suspension, and Mahorn and Leslie deserve Suspensions!

  10. I think it was the fault of both parties. The Shock player went at Candace Parker (in a threatening way). Parker dragged her down as they collided and suddenly everyone tried to help their teammates. The Assistant coach it looked like was trying to separate the players but got entangled with Lisa Leslie and in their minor fight he tried to push her away from the fight who knows if Leslie embellished it. But Mahorn was trying to be a peace maker. Obviously he comes out as a bad guy he should've been a little more careful. Considering Leslie is a face of the WNBA a recognizable player it is obvious that he might be suspended. I think it was a physical game chippiness and a few rough fouls led to this fight.

The Shock player that ran into Parker, and Candace Parker are both at fault for the situation.

  11. Candace parker did man that was a weird fight

  12. If you listen to the pregame the announcers says that they spoke to 1 of the Detroit players and they said this is going to be a good old cat fight well it was .

If you watched the game you saw hard fouls being trade all game long from both teams .  The last game they played Candace Parker received a bloody nose and only had 8 points  so they probably thought if they played her rough that she would not play well.  20 points later there frustration was evident . what happen between ford and parker is what got parker pissed off and then for Plenette Pierson to try to stand over her was what really started the fight

and ps Parker was already on the ground when Deanna Nolan jumped on top of her so height really has nothing to do with it .I could jump on shaq if he was on the ground
