Well in class we have this assignment and it is

ur highschool has been awared $1000 to invest in a new promising biotechnology company. they concil has investigated several companies and recomments investing in TransGen, a company tha uses transgenic pigs that secrete several human blood products in their milk. Their first success was a pig named Genie, who produces human prtien C( which controls bloods clotting). others pigs secrete Factor VII, a blood protein that is missing in people with the inherited bleeding disorder hemophilia.

the principal has appointd a commitee to determine if it 's an appropriate investment for school. you represent one of the several special intrest groups that will present its views to the bioethic committe.

hamatologists who treat blood disorders

environmental activists

so i have the ppl with hemophilia and prot. C deficiency. need ideas to support this view

  1. If PETA had it's way, no animals would be used in research at all. The animals are valuable, and I am sure are better off than being on the way to someone's dinner table.  

    If the company has found a way to control some of the bleeding disorders, wonderful.  Even the most minor surgical problem or injury becomes a major problem for these patients.


  2. Thats pretty easy.  Those folks would make the point that these transgenic pigs are producing biologicals that keep them from dying.  And they would counter the arguments about pig viruses with ones about human viruses (HIV, hepatitis) from human blood.
