WPA vs. WPA2? Which one?

Which would you recommend? I know WPA2 would seem more secure but some people have been telling to to go with WPA instead. I don't know. I just want the most secure wireless internet so that it'll be near impossible to crack into. And yes, I know it depends more on the password, and I already have a hard password set. I just want to know if I should go with WPA or WPA2 instead. Thanks!

  1. WPA2.

Its far more secure than WPA.

The only reason to go to WPA is if you are playing Online Game with others on a LAN to your Wireless and you have a performance decrease.  However, for the most part, 11 to 54Mbps is MORE than enough (even with a Wireless Switch acting as a hub) for the number of users you will have on it.

A very detailed explanation is here -

  3. If you're on a home network then WPA is totally fine. Hackers would need several hours of work with fast systems to crack a good WPA password, and if it's a home network, that's not going to happen. You could change the password on a regular basis if you're really paranoid though.

Now if you're running a commercial network with valuable information stored on it, then it would be a good idea to go with WPA2 and secure off-line backups. That's probably not your case though, so WPA is fine.
