WPBSA Chief Jason Ferguson launches South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester as Centre of Excellence
World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has awarded the South West Snooker Academy (SWSA) in Gloucester with the Centre of Excellence status. The WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson made the announcement at the renowned academy and also appreciated
the services SWSA has been providing to promote the game of snooker throughout England and the world.
Jason Ferguson and MP Gloucester Richard Graham were present at the moment of the announcement along with SWSA Owner Paul Mount and the academy’s Director of Coaching, Terry Griffiths. Many renowned players were also present there at the moment of the ceremony.
The attendants appreciated the academy’s unique and matchless efforts as a venue and a promoter of the game across UK and overseas. The WPBSA Chief believes the SWSA is an excellent institution to provide coaching services as well as a splendid venue for
various snooker tournaments like Players Tour Championships (PTC).
While speaking to the local media on the occasion of announcement, Ferguson said, “The new programme will create Centres of Excellence all over the world. We'll have a number of elite centres which have achieved the highest standard of facilities and are
committed to the development of our sport both at grassroots and professional level, providing opportunities for all.”
He added, “The SWSA is an oustanding facility and the investment Paul has made here, not just in financial terms, but in the commitment to snooker, far exceeds the standards that we require for a Centre of Excellence. We're encouraging new coaches into the
sport and we'll be using the coaches already here and training new ones.”
Ferguson praised the academy’s coaching services and said that the academy being used as a centre to train coaches was a really good step. He also hailed Terry Griffiths, who will be serving as a trainer in the facility, and said that the facility couldn't
have had a better person than him on board.
The launch of South West Snooker Academy as the Centre of Excellence is another step towards the promotion and development of the game of snooker. The announcement has followed the launch of the Asian Snooker Academy in Bangkok a few days ago which will
benefit 28 Asian countries to develop snooker in the continent.
