WPBSA fines Mark Allen again for no show in five tournament publicity events
Snooker governing body across the globe, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) launches many promotional or invitational events either to raise funds for a charity organisation or to promote the game across the world. The association
invites the leading cuemen from around the world to take part in the event in order to fulfil their purpose.
Participating in all those events is compulsory for all players who are invited in those tournaments as it is mentioned in their limited contract with the World Snooker. Failing to appear in any of these events violates some certain rules which have been
devised by World Snooker. The potters are advised to follow the code of conduct regarding the participation in these events.
In their recent statement, the WPBSA officials fined the winner of the 2012 Haikou World Open, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen for violating the same rules. He was fined £2,000 for not taking part in five promotional snooker events along with £1,000 for the
cost of hearing of the case. The snooker association investigated the matter after it was reported by the officials and found that Allen breached certain clause of the World Snooker limited contract.
In its recent statement on the official website, World Snooker wrote, “Disciplinary Committee of the WPBSA formally considered the case of Mark Allen in relation to alleged breaches of the WSL players' contract. The circumstances were that since September
2011 he had failed to attend five separate promotional obligations at or immediately before Tournaments as required under his contract with WSL.”
The statement further added, “On Thursday 26th July 2012 the sanction imposed by the Committee was a £2,000 fine and a formal warning in respect of his future conduct.”
A couple of months ago, Allen was fined because of his offensive remarks about his Chinese opponent in the 2012 World Snooker Championship, Cao Yupeng. He called his opponent a cheat which caused him a fine of the same mount.
The WPBSA looks like they are very serious to enforce the rules and regulations on the players as the new snooker season has recently started. Allen will definitely be disappointed as he seems to take the brunt of the WPBSA disciplinary actions.
