WPBSA launches a new induction programme for new World Snooker Tour entrants
New snooker season has begun with the launch of the Asian Players Tour Championship (APTC) followed by the first major ranking snooker tournament of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event. This year, the snooker governing body across the globe, the World Professional
Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has provided an opportunity to 128 new professionals who will be taking part in the new World Snooker Tour.
Regarding the new faces that will be entering the professional circuit for the first time, the WPBSA has launched a new induction programme that will help the new potters, who made their way into the pro tour, deal with the challenges and issues regarding
the professional career. The programme will deal with the new players during their run to help them cope with the difficulties in their career.
The issues include the procedures regarding the entrance in a major or minor ranking event and playing in that tournament. Also, the specific guidelines about different snooker rules and regulations, specific disciplinary guidelines and procedures to deal
with such issues will be covered. Additionally, the rules and regulations regarding members of the association, how to earn prize money and ranking points through their performance in different snooker events and applying for logos is highlighted.
While speaking to World Snooker, WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said, “The whole induction programme is about education, and helping the new players take those first few steps when they are dropped into the wide world of professional snooker. I remember when
I first turned pro, for the first few weeks I didn't know what to do or who to speak to.”
He added, “We want today's players to feel as if they are joining a family where there are people at hand to help and guide them. Hopefully this will allow them to move forward in their careers and assist the objectives of the WPBSA and World Snooker in
building a thriving global circuit.”
The programme will definitely be a plus point for the new professionals who are entering the professional circuit of the association. Due to the increasing popularity of the game across the world, countless players are emerging from different parts of the
globe which has made it necessary to devise such a programme for the benefit of both the players and the WPBSA.
