WR Andre Johnson’s availability crucial to Houston Texans’ 2012 success – NFL News
Fitness and form of wide receiver, Andre Johnson, is going to be crucial to the performance and success of the Houston Texans in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
Andre missed a majority of games in the 2011 NFL season due to a lingering hamstring injury and he is out this year after having an arthroscopic surgery on his knee.
With the team starting the training camp by end of next month, the WR is yet to report his recovery and fitness. There is no confirmation if he is going to be available at the camp. He has already missed the mandatory three-day minicamp.
This is not a good development for the team, who expect back the star quarterback, Matt Schaub, back from a foot injury to the squad by the training camp. The second-year quarterback, T.J. Yates, has already proven his credentials to be
a player of higher stature.
With an expected improvement in the QB situation, the receivers’ spot remains very thin. Further, the absence of Schaub from the offseason training activity is hurting the workout progress of rookie receivers. So altogether, the team is
set to face difficulties at the receivers’ position.
Amid the situation, the team must hope for earliest possible comeback of the star WR, Johnson.
Although the team has not provided any update about his latest recovery status and whether he is going to make it to the training camp, a longer absence is going to be too costly for the team.
Texans were through a similar situation at the QB position last season. They, however, managed to survive the scare through hiring a couple of veterans, and thanks to superb performance of the then rookie, Yates, on the starting line.
He did not leave the team feel absence of Schaub.
It is yet to be seen if the team is going to overcome the receivers’ challenge this season. Apparently, the stakes are higher for Texans this year. They are coming out on the field as Super Bowl contenders, after having made it to the
playoffs and winning the American Football Conference (AFC) North division last year.
The participation of the players like Johnson is going to be crucial to the team’s achievement of last year’s standards, let alone improving further from that level.
