WR Austin Collie doubtful, LB Dwight Freeney out of Indianapolis Colts vs Minnesota Vikings – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have avoided confirming whether the injury of linebacker Dwight Freeney is a high sprained ankle, except for the information that he has been excluded from selection of the squad for the next game against the Minnesota Vikings this
Sunday.
Freeney suffered the injury in the season opener on past Sunday, which the Colts lost to the Chicago Bears. The LB has not returned to practice since then and now coach Chuck Pagano has officially confirmed his ousting from the next game.
The linebacker apparently has twisted his ankle but the coach did not confirm it is a high sprained ankle, which in that case will require the player a longer period for recovery and rehab.
Some media reports earlier hinted at the injury to be a high sprained ankle, citing unconfirmed results from initial scans that the player had soon after suffering the injury.
Interestingly, no official of the team has spoken about it since it occurred and probably the player has been kept silent over the entire week as a strategic move to not give much to their opposition to know about the player before the start of the game.
Unfortunately, the return has not happened yet given the player has remained unable to hit the field during the entire past week and apparently the situation does not seem very conducive for him.
It is rather surprising that the team has not updated his recovery status, which nevertheless will damage the player’s case as far as his rehab and return are concerned.
Meanwhile, Chuck said that wide receiver Austin Collie is doubtful for the next game. Collie is recovering from the concussion he suffered on August 19 during the preseason campaign and although he himself and the team boasted about his ability to stay fit,
his expected absence is also a surprise for many.
Poor Collie has suffered three concussions since November 2010, and too much burden of head injuries on the player has certainly taken a toll on his career to an extent.
Yet he is hopeful about prospects of playing the pro league unaffected in the longer run in future, and so is the team.
