WR Lee Evans may land job with Miami Dolphins after Jacksonville Jaguars cut – NFL News
Receiver Lee Evans’ sudden release by the Jacksonville Jaguars has plunged his pro career prospects into an unexpected phase of uncertainty, which as a matter of fact had stemmed and started from the unfortunate fumble into touchdown vicinity and closing
seconds of the Baltimore Ravens' American Football Conference (AFC) championship game they lost 23-20 to the New England Patriots and once again failed to reach the Super Bowl title game, in the 2011 season.
It was Ravens’ fourth successive attempt and minutes after the game ended all fingers started pointing towards Evans.
He was released by the team to join the Jaguars in April (this year). Unfortunately, he was restricted to a limited use in training camp by the Jaguars. The choice of the team baffled many commentators as apart from that bad fumble last season he is a veteran
and has a good game profile.
Later, his drop from the preseason opener showed everything written on the wall for him, and he agreed to some analysts’ view that his waiver by the Jaguars was imminent.
It may be the right time for him to be released, given the Miami Dolphins are in immediate need of a receiver of his calibre. They have just cut their troubled receiver Chad Johnson, and Evans fits their need and criteria in all aspects.
One of the reasons behind Johnson’s release is that he has showed himself to be a macho to the apparent displeasure of coach Joe Philbin. Joe was not pleased with his ‘profanity’ with journalists and before his release, the coach had threatened him roster
waiver over his attitude. Evans on the hand is a rather mature player and his conduct on-and-off-field is impressive.
Some sections of media have hinted at Evans’ chances of getting the job at Dolphins immediately. There is no independent confirmation yet if the player has come into contact with Dolphins’ managers but that possibility remains on the cards.
The Jaguars meanwhile have signed another six-year veteran WR Demetrius Williams to fill the void created by departure of Evans. Jaguars’ other signee guard Josh Beekman has replaced receiver Taylor Price, who has been placed on the injured reserve list.
