WTA Day Three Upsets at Wimbledon – Tennis Special

Li Na
World number 52, Sorana Cirstea, registered her first win against the 11th seed Chinese star, Li Na, in the second round of the Wimbledon on Wednesday. It was a comprehensive performance by the 22-year-old Romanian who
comprehended the win in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 battling for an hour and 37 minutes at the grass courts of All England Club, London.
Cirstea clasped 86 points in total with an impressive conversion of five breakpoints from the allotted 11 chances. She saved 10 out of 12 breakpoints to keep her lead intact on different occurrences and smashed 17 winners that
rounded off the win in her favour.
The Romanian star will go head-to-head against the 17th seed Russian, Maria Kirilenko, in the following round clash.
Samantha Stosur
Another disappointing end to a promising Wimbledon start for the fifth seed Aussie, Samantha Stosur, was witnessed on the eve of Wednesday when she stooped to the inferior ranked Dutch, Arantxa Rus. The 72nd ranked youngster
from Netherlands won the opening 6-2; faced an embarrassing bagel 0-6 in the second phase but fought back brilliantly to oust the 28-year-old Aussie 6-4 in the final battle.
Rus won 77 points in total and smashed two accurately placed aces. She converted six breakpoints from the allotted eight in her favour and saved 10 of them to contain her rival. Stosur won 86 points; smacked 20 winners, nine more
than her rival, but still failed to win the match. It was all about winning the crucial points at pivotal stages of the match and Rus did exactly that to power down the fifth ranked Aussie.
Arantxa Rus will contest her next battle with the 30th seed Chinese star, Shuai Peng. It is going to another tough battle for the Dutch queen but if she manages to play like this, she will reach the advanced stages of
the Wimbledon Championships.
Caroline Wozniacki
The Grand Slam nightmare for the Dane superstar, Caroline Wozniacki, continued at Wimbledon Championships as well. She was sent packing in the opening round clash by the 37th ranked Austrian star, Tamira Paszek, on the
eve of Wednesday. The match was scheduled to be played on Tuesday but only four games were contested before the play was suspended due to rain and later on postponed to the following day.
Wozniacki was on the verge of losing first set but she saved a set point and went on to break her opponent’s serve in the 12th game to bag the opening set 7-5. However, she failed to respond to the onslaught and firm
willpower of her rival and lost the following two sets 7-6(4), 6-4. It was a world class turnaround from a 21-year-old Austrian who failed to generate momentum in any tournament this season.
Tamira Paszek will contest her next match with the French tennis professional, Alize Cornet.
The tournament is shaping up to be a terrific one but some big guns have already departed from it that is shocking. Let’s hope the rest of heavy duty personnel manage to stay deep in the contest to provide some fantastic encounters
in the fading stages of Wimbledon.
