WTA Power Rankings; Top ten players on the tour - Part III
Here is the last part of the top ten contenders on the WTA tour in terms of their power ranking points
7. Ana Ivanovic with power ranking points of 518
With her title victory at Linz last month, the professional tennis ace from Serbia successfully qualified for the Bali tournament. Despite being an unseeded player, Ana was without any question the most in form woman and as a result did well to win
her second crown of the year.
The former world number one struggled to find her top form in much of 2010. A couple of final four appearances at Cincinnati and Rome were the only good results prior to the year’s final Grand Slam, the US Open in New York, where she was bundled out
in the round of sixteen at the hands of ultimate winner Kim Clijsters. However, the Serbian still managed to finish the year on a high note, triumphing in thirteen of her past fifteen clashes on the tour.
After once again returning to the world’s top twenty, the upcoming season is appearing highly promising for the 2008 Roland Garros winner.
8. Elena Dementieva with power ranking points of 511
Elena Dementieva of Russia started off her 2010 campaign in style, getting the better of former world number one Serena Williams in the title battle at Sydney. After falling to Henin at the Australian Open in Melbourne, the Russian captured another
trophy at Paris, the sixteenth and last of her career.
After going 1-2 in the round-robin stage at the season finale tournament in Doha, Elena took retirement from the professional tennis, stunning millions of her lovers all around the world. Her announcement came as a real shocker in spite of the fact
that the elegant Elena admitted that she had already made up her mind prior to the start of the year.
She led the Russian domination of the WTA tour at the turn of the century. Elena has been in the world’s top twenty for almost ten seasons in a row. She achieved her career high ranking of world number three back in 2009 during the month of June. Her
professional life will perhaps be highlighted by her gold medal she won at the Olympic Games in Beijing along with her two Grand Slam title battle showings back in 2004.
Above all, what actually won the hearts of her fans was her charming and pleasant personality apart from her game. Farewell, Dementieva! All the very best in your life ahead.
9. Alisa Kleybanova with power ranking points of 311
Alisa grabbed two trophies in 2010, at Kuala Lumpur back in February and Seoul two months ago and as a result successfully made her way into the Bali tournament.
At the Bali event, Alisa reached the title battle after posting victories over Rezai and Yanina Wickmayer, however was eventually ousted by Ana Ivanovic in straight sets.
Alisa made her breakthrough two years ago when she finished the season at number thirty three on the tour. However, the right hander has not made any impressive runs since then, never marching higher than the number twenty two in the following two
years.
She is yet to make her way into her first final eight round at a Grand Slam tournament. With a high level of consistency, she has the possibility to crack the top twenty in 2011.
10. Kimiko Date Krumm with power ranking points of 267
The forty year old Kimiko entered the Bali event as a wild card entrant. She straight away upset the number one seed Li Na but was eventually defeated by the ultimate winner Ana Ivanovic in the final four round.
She then outlasted Daniela Hantuchova, another wild card entry, for the third-spot finish. The tennis year is not quite over for her though, as Kimiko is also taking part in the ongoing Asian Games in China.
She made a comeback on the WTA tour back in 2008, twelve years after her retirement back in 1996. She captured her twelfth career trophy last year at Seoul prior to her 39th birthday.
In spite of the fact that Kimiko did not lift another crown in 2010, it is no small feat for a forty year old player to finish the year in the top fifty on the tour.
If the professional tennis veteran stays injure-free, she would definitely be a player to look forward to on the tour in 2011.
