WTA Rankings....Can you help?

All this talk of JJ having to win LA to become number one confuses me because i've done the math and checked wtatour.com and i think JJ is already number one by making it to semifinals.....heres my math

Ivanovic has 17 tournaments but after LA she will have only 16 so she will lose all her points from LA last year (275)

right now she has 3828 so 3828-275=3553

Jankovic has more than 17 tournaments so you take the top 17 tournaments and add their ranking points to get her ranking.....i did that, but i got 3616 but her ranking is 3685 so im guessing she has some sort of quality points added to it. Anywayz with a ranking of 3685 now that she is in the semis, even if she loses she still has the same number of ranking points.

So lets say she loses in the semis.....Rankings stand

Jelena Jankovic 3685

Ana Ivanovic 3553

isn't that right?

  1. She needs 143 points to get to the #1 spot. If she gets to the Finals, I think she becomes #1 anyway. That's what the points says.

  2. yes if u say then it is.

  3. Hmm, not sure about the this...

I hope that Safina wins, though....

  4. this is how it works:

JJ need to win to get the number 1 this week because the computer do not subtract thepoints from los angeles until the 4th week of the us open series......which means that if JJ wins east west bak classic she will get 275 points and ivanovic wont lose the points until the 4th week of the us open series.

if JJ wins the east west bank classic shell get 275 points

sso the rankings are(if JJ wins)

    ivanovic:3828

    jankovic:3960
