WTA Tour and Rankings...?

Question

Jeeze, it seems like the women's ranking is not even based on who really is the best anymore. Seems like its based more on who is more healthy and able to play more matches and hoping for the other players to choke and lose early. Neither of the top players are really consistent and there's hardly any dramatic competition between them. Justine retires, and when the Williams retire, then I think the WTA tour would pretty much suck and ratings will fall. That really leaves only 3 good players, Maria and the Serbs....

Well for Ana, I think she worked hard to be #1 player. It doesn't mean she's the best, but she showed she can beat the best. She did lose early, but she's not the first top player to choke and won't be the last. The rankings reflect wins and being healthy. You can't win if you're not healthy so your statement about health is sort of weird.

I agree with you. Ivanovic and Sharapova are not consistent at all. Jankovic is really the only top player that is really consistent. I have to disagree with you on the last sentence about the only 3 good players... you have Radwanska, Dementieva, Vaidisova, Chavatadze, etc. All of these players are rising stars.....

I don't agree with that!

1. There will be more players in the future who will be great, and will be on the top like Wozniaki; Number 31 seed, and only 17.

2. The luck of the draw is big in tennis like if thing go the seeded way Jankovic, and Venus Williams will play in the quarter-finals!

3. One of Zheng, Szavay, Vaidisova, or Chakvetadze will be in semi-finals which means one of them will get a very high rating, and that is why I agree with you partly!

I agree with you. There is currently no "real" World No. 1 in women's tennis right now, whoever gets the top spot, gives them pressure and lose very early in a tournament like what happened to Sharapova and then recently Ivanovic. I think the rankings just need some time and they will just take care of them self.
