very meagre professional personalities from that part of the world.
Maleeva talked to the media representatives and stated, “I hope so although I am not sure that all the players are well-known in Bulgaria. Fingers crossed for a full house during the matches of Tsvetana Pironkova.” The statement
was placed on the official website of the tournament and Pironkova is also an athlete who will have a chance to play in front of the home crowd after q long period of time. She is the top Bulgarian professional who has shown her class at the professional platform.
Former world number four, Maleeva, further added “Tsveti is already an experienced player and probably does not need any advice. This time she will play at home and it is a different story. The crowd support is an advantage but
if you lose, comes the unpleasant task to deal with all the hard stuff in the media.”
The tennis federation of Bulgaria has been trying to hold an elite tournament for over a year and finally their efforts has been rewarded. It is a massive opportunity for tennis fans in Sofia to show their love for game and record
big turnouts so that tournaments are played on consistent basis. Maleeva commented, “I will be happy if Ana Ivanovic comes. In my last year on the tour we used to practice together and I feel a lot of sympathy toward her."
This year is turning out to be a year of upsets and small players stepping up whilst old players making terrific returns. Maybe it’s time for Ivanovic to shine as well.
