4. a native or descendant of a native of China.

Carefully read this definition of a Chinese person. It implies that if you have at least ONE Chinese ancestor, then you are a Chinese person - no matter what you look like, no matter what your last name is. Is this definition racist? That would mean there would be more and more and more Chinese people in the world!!!!?

PS: I'm a Chinese guy and I find the dictionary offensive.

  1. How is this offensive?

a native or descendant of a native of China.? I don't even understand your grammar, which should be "A native or descendant of a native of China"

1st definition: A native - someone who's from China is automatically Chinese.

2nd definition: descendant of a native of China - a person who's ancestors were from China would automatically make that descendant Chinese, even if there's only 0.000000001% blood. These account for the many people who are outside China born of Chinese parents or grandparents, etc... AKA "Overseas Chinese" where "country of birth" doesn't factor in.

  2. What?!! I can't believe that you object to such a definition. I can't think of a less objectionable definition than saying what it says. Certainly someone who hails from China is Chinese.

To me that is a begnign description and much less offensive than the definition that appears later on the same page that refers to "yellow and oblique eyelids".

I can't help wondering if you have a problem with your own race.

  3. What is wrong with this definition?   Why would it be racist?

It may mean that there will be more and more Chinese people, but by the same token, there will be more and more of other race too right?  since if one is not 100% chinese, he/she has to have other ancestries as well...  so they can claim themselves as ......  also....  so more and more Chiense, true.  But also more and more  of the other race...

I don't see the problem in this definition.

  4. OMG you need to relax.  The definition should be racist since it concerns RACE.  Der.

  5. The Chinese are very inclusive. Many Chinese of China consider the descendants of emigrants as Chinese even five or six generations later. In contrast, many Japanese consider a Japanese-born person who spends many years abroad as no longer Japanese.
