Another thing! Why is gasoline the only thing that can charge me a fraction of a cent? (9/10) I mean is that really needed? Just last week on the news they stated that every time gasoline goes up 1 sent the united states postal service has to spend $8 million per gallon. Thats $720 thousand dollars the gasoline company gets to keep for free because they aren't required to give back 1/10 of a cent as change. Basically stealing money. Why is this legal?!

  1. My understanding (and I may be wrong) is that the 0.9 ¢ thing is to our advantage.

It is because the gas taxes are based on whole number prices. So by listing the price as $2.999 instead of $3.000, the tax is in a lower catagory.

  2. Lol.

Enjoy the "War on Terrorism"... It'll be probably your biggest out of pocket expense this decade.

  3. venezuelauns

  4. i have no idea why that is legal, d**n venezuelauns (how the **** do you spell that?) over there it is only 17 cents per gallon where over here it is 429 and 9/10 cents per gallon!

    **** that, i'm walking!

  5. Because no one wants to take the necessary steps to make it all stop; namely to find ways of commuting other than using gas.  (Biking, walking, electric cars, etc.)  It's inconvenient, people are used to the way things are & it takes a lot of hard work to make changes.  Especially when it's something that we've done for as long as we've driven cars.  As for the fraction of a cent, it's funny you mentioned that, I had to fill my tank last night, & I was thinking the same thing!  Now that the price is so high, more people will be questioning it too.  I mean, come ON!  9/10s of a CENT?  But like you said, when it all adds up, that's a nice little "extra" that they keep!

I have a question posted that gives you a link to a site that will tell you where to find the cheapest gas prices in your zip code.  It's a nice thing to have, it's getting ridiculous.

  6. there's betting less and less of it i guess. i don't like fuel either

  7. It isn't that they are NOT giving back 1/10 of a penny.  It is that they are charging 9/10 more.

As to why they charge by the fractional penny,  it is because they can - this a free economy.  And it is as simple as that.

    Good Luck...

  8. My personal opinion our military is overseas buying fuel for their tanks, humvees, etc. Theres a loss. The government is pushing hybrids and alternative fuels. Theres a loss. Communities are going green with energy. Theres a loss. Amongst others. It will cost more to ship fuel to forign countries that will still be using large quantities of fossil fuel. Not to mention the fact of stiff competition that is already there. I feel it is a last ditch effort to gouge the consumer before it all takes a c**p. Besides, since when did the top money ever give a d**n about the bottom!
