WW2 german aircraft engines?

I read that at the end of ww2 german diesel aircraft engines were brought to Britain to be used to power diesel-electric railway engines .I know that some of the german bombers were diesel powered ,but were they used on British railways.?

  1. No they were not. But did you know that BMW the german luxury car originally was making airplane engines for Hitler in WWII. The engines lasted long but wasn't strong enough for airplanes so BMW decided to make cars. if you look at the BMW logo the white is the airplane propeler in the sky (blue background.)  


  2. No, but oddly enough, diesel engines originally intended for railways wound up taking to the skies in modified form. The engines in question powered the British airship R101.

    The most successful innovation in diesel rail traction was the utilisation of the Napier Deltic opposed piston engine.

    The "Deltic" engine acquired it's fame in marine service and was down rated to prolong it's overhaul schedule.
