They all broke as just quite wrestlers, then thier great mic skills started to shine, so they started making alot of jokes to gain pops, then they all hit the main stream.  

Look for Santino to get a push as a mainstreamer in about 2 years.

Probably, I like him as a comedy act but after all this is wrestling and he should be wrestling, not trying to make people laugh

If he's like everyone else in the History of the WWWF/WWF/WWE he may have several gimmicks, characters and roles that he will be involved in over the years. Wrestlers characters change over time, that has been true of everyone. So the answer to your question is no, Santino Marella will not stay a comedy character the rest of his WWE Career. He may even take time off, be repackaged and come back with a different look.

Unless they bring him back under a new gimmick, Santino is a perfect comedy character for life.

As for him being Intercontinental Champion, that's the worst thing going right now in the WWE. He might be funny and he might be good enough to work a crowd, but there's others on RAW that deserve to be IC Champion.
