The spotlight of New Year’s night was the four-men tag team championship match between the dusted arch rivals in WWE Smack Down, Kane with Alberto Del Rio taking on against Rey Mysterio and the new World Heavy weight Champion Edge.
The show started off with the Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler walking in to the ring with Smack Down’s official consultant Vickie Gurerro. Both accused John Cena for affronting Vickie Gurerro last week on Smack Down when he lifted Gurerro into the
air to deliver an Attitude Adjustment, which was later saved by CM Punk who delivered Cena with a chair shot. The fiasco was cut short when Kofi Kingston stepped in, followed by Jack Swagger who demanded a re-match for the Intercontinental Championship. Their
plead was answered abruptly by Smack Down’s General Manager Theodore Long by fixing the title match later in the night.
The enmity between World’s Largest Athlete, The Big Show and Dashing Cody Rhodes continued to get intensive as the two met for the third consecutive week. Show delivered a series of massive paw’s to Rhodes and thunderous leg drops. As The Big Show was about
to deliver his finishing punch move, Rhodes managed to get out of the way and fled, giving Show the victory on count outs.
General Manager Smack Down, Theodore Long arranged a New Year’s party called ‘Hola-Hola-Hola Holiday party’ backstage where each member of WWE was invited to present their new year’s resolution. Teddy added more spark to the party by announcing that Rey
Mysterio would be facing Del Rio in a 2 out of 3 falls in one-on-one match while Edge will be defending his WWE title against the Big Red Machine, Kane in a last man standing match next week on Smack Down.
Drew McIntyre had an easy opponent to deal with in the shape of young Trent Barreta whom he beated comprehensively to mark his last win of the year. In yet another rematch for TLC, Diva’s action was fixed where LayCool took on the team of WWE Diva’s Champion
Natalya and Beth Phoenix. The team of LayCool directed to attack Natalya early on in the match by knocking her with scissor kicks, leg drops and supplexes. Finally the duo of Diva’s Champion and The Glamazon were able to express their months of frustration
for the second time in a row by knocking Michelle McCool out for the pin.
World Heavy weight Champion Edge and the best high flying athlete that the federation has ever produced Rey Mysterio took on The Big Red Monster, Kane and Mexican ogre Alberto Del Rio. The notorious duo targeted Mysterio by not allowing him to tag his partner
Edge. But once the tag was made, the World Champion was unstoppable with a fully geared up momentum. He smashed Del Rio in repeated leg drops and then a DDT to the canvas. Mytserio, on the other end got hold of Devil’s Favorite Demon, Kane by making him motionless
after being thrown from over the ropes. The little master delivered Del Rio with a vicious 619 followed by the brutal spear by Edge to cover Del Rio for the three counts and securing a flourishing win.
Two of the most aggressive superstars in WWE, Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler aimed at dismantling Kofi Kingston, who was the apparently the strongest of all while they met in the triple threat match for Intercontinental Championship. Kofi had to deal with
the odds while series of punches, leg locks and clothesline continued to rush in from both corners of the ring. As the match was entitled every man for himself, the two soon broke out in an enraged chaos. Kofi Kingston was close enough to be the next champion
when he gave The All American American a trouble to the paradise kick but just when he was about to cover Swagger up, Ziggler appeared from the ringside only to have rolled him over for retaining the title, thus ending the year on high note.
