WWE SmackDown Report: Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes defeats Ezekiel Jackson
The Friday Night SmackDown Raw featured another championship victory for the Intercontinental Champion, Cody Rhodes as he defeated the former Champion Ezekiel Jackson in the title match on August 19.
The 626th edition of Friday Night SmackDown was conducted at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, California. The show started with the SmackDown General Manager, Theodore Long heading towards the ring. The GM introduced the new World Heavyweight Champion,
Randy Orton who defeated Christian at WWE’s pay-per-view event, SummerSlam on August 14. Afterwards the GM announced a Number one contender match between 20 SmackDown superstars.
When the GM and the World Champion were in the bank, they were interfered by The Intercontinental Champion, Rhodes and his protégé Ted DiBiase. Rhodes stated that reunited as Orton, Rhodes and Ted were the former group named “Legacy”. Rhodes stated that
he was the champion and Orton was the champion too but Rhodes was not happy with I.C. Championship. Rhodes stated that he would win the 20-Man Battle Royal to get the title shot for World Championship. Rhodes then ordered his protégé to speak and he said that
he and Rhodes knew better than anyone else the strengths and weak points of Orton. Ted also commented that they had not forgotten that Orton used them for his own benefit. Unexpectedly, The Viper hit an RKO on Ted and began starring Rhodes.
The World Champion in the huge anger left the ring while Rhodes yelled at the GM that he should do something. The GM also shocked Rhodes by announcing that he would fight against the former I.C. champion, Jackson in the place of Ted as he was not in the
situation to fight. The fight started at the same time and Jackson came out among the huge pop of WWE Universe.
The title match started between the champion Rhodes and Jackson as per order of the GM. The I.C. Champion, Rhodes put up an amazing defence against Jackson. After about 10 minutes of a brutal fight, Rhodes took the fight by hitting his finishing move Nightmare
Kick and retained his title by pinning for a three count. After retaining the title, the I.C. Champion participated in the 20-Man Battle Royal. Rhodes could not win the Royal Battle and was eliminated by his official rival, Jackson. The Battle Royal was captured
by the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry.
