WWE Summer Slam, RAW beat Nexus, Big Show still the best
Summer’s wrestling extravaganza arrived as thousands of fans gathered at Los Angeles to witness this year’s most enthralling wrestling experience.
It could not have been much better for the WWE Universe to see their own veteran superstars regaining their lost glory over Team Nexus from NXT Rookies. NXT rookies had the apparent advantage over team RAW when they thrashed The Great Khali, a few weeks back leaving them down to six members. But before the start of this highly rated tag team elimination match, John Cena announced that a rookie from NXT, Daniel Bryan would accompany them as their seventh member.
The Nexus were left in disbelief as their partner betrayed them and they lost the edge since then. Bret Hart’s men kept on eliminating the opponents at regular intervals, finally breaking the Nexus group. A comprehensive win for team RAW showed that such superstars are capable of demolishing any challenger when they unite.
Rage continued to grow among WWE Champion Sheamus and Randy Orton as both fought each other furiously, exchanging blows and punches. Sheamus locked the viper a number of times into submissions of his own, but the experienced Orton got away every time. Orton fought back with a series of leg drops and superplexes, followed by a backbreaker and went for the pin, but the Celtic warrior kicked out. Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick and missed, only to find himself a victim of Orton’s DDT. Orton went to finish the proceedings with a RKO but Sheamus counter delivered him a solid kick on the chin and went for the pin. However, Orton kicked out of it. A furious Sheamus got a chair into the ring and quarrelled with referee about it, who later disqualified the warrior from the game. The champion tried hitting Orton with the chair but he kicked him down and later gave Sheamus an RKO on the announcers table.
High flying Rey Mysterio fought with amazing enthusiasm against the Big Red Monster Kane as both met in a deadly encounter for World Heavyweight Championship at Summer Slam. The young man from Mexico powered Kane with a number of kicks to his knees and then arms, making the giant extremely angry, and finally pinned the 619 expert for the win. As promised, Kane went on to throw him into the wooden casket, only to have found The Undertaker lying inside. This led to a massive roar from WWE Universe, who did not expect this to happen. The Deadman tried showing his wrath over the monster via a choke-slam but the World Champion countered intelligently, delivering the terminator a tombstone to h**l on the mat. It would now be interesting to see what the Deadman has on his mind and what tactics he adopts against his brother, Kane.
Intercontinental championship match between Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston ended in a no contest when the fuming members of Team Nexus interfered in the contest and manhandled poor Kingston. The brutal assault left the acrobat in the centre of the ring as Ziggler fled with his championship title, ending the match in a no contest. Ziggler, thus retains his title which he got through the help of SmackDown consultant Vickie Gurrero, this past week on SmackDown. Kingston will now be looking for a rematch against the ruthless Ziggler to get back his lost title.
Hatred between Straight Edge Society and Big Show seemed to have ended when the giant finally proved that he still is the best in the business. The game plan worked very well for Straight Edge Society since the start of game as they were able to overpower the World’s Largest Athlete, grounding him with a series of punches and leg drops. But the big man never backed out and responded by knocking Luke Gallows and Joseph Murray to The Second City Savior’s dismay, and then beating CM Punk with a three count.
The woman, who was sidelined for eight straight months due to a severe injury, finally proved her worth. Melina became the new WWE Diva’s Championship by defeating Alisha Fox comprehensively. Melina now faces a serious threat from Team Lay-Cool vixens after they jeopardized her after the match.
