WWE: Tag Team Action – David Otunga & Skip Sheffield vs. John Morrison & R – Truth – The battle of survival
When all of the Nexus members preferred to compete in singles matches on Monday Night RAW, Skip Sheffield and David Otunga decided to form a tag team. Nexus members were allowed to pick their opponents so Sheffield and Otunga preferred to fight the tag team of John Morrison and R – Truth. Sheffield and Otunga faced an uphill task as everything was on the line in this match. They desperately needed to win the fight in order to remain as a part of Nexus.
Many wrestling fans were criticizing Nexus as it lost an important elimination match against team WWE at Summer Slam. The very image of Nexus in WWE was at stake. It was a chance for Sheffield and Otunga to show that Nexus members have the guts to fights in singles and tag team matches.
On the other hand, John Morrison and R – Truth’s reputation was also on the line. They knew that it would look bad on their wrestling resumes if they lost a match against the young wrestlers of Nexus. Morrison and R – Truth were among the first few wrestlers of team WWE to be eliminated in the Elimination match at Summer Slam. They knew that a loss in this match would give a confidence boost to Nexus and this wild group will resume its destructive activities.
The four wrestlers squared off against each other with reputation and careers on the line. It was the Monday Night delight, John Morrison who started the match against David Otunga. Morrison was quick in his attack as he slammed Otunga’s back on the ring floor to create an impact. Rather than continuing the attack, Morrison tagged in his partner, R – Truth to electrify the ring. R – Truth was devastating in his attack as climbed the top turn buckle to deliver a leg drop on Otunga’s neck.
It seemed that the match would end in the first 30 seconds as R – Truth went for the cover over Otunga. However, Skip Sheffield disregarded the rules of professional wrestling and punched R – Truth to break the three count. Otunga then literally crawled to the ring corner to tag Skip Sheffield in to the ring. Sheffield executed a high powered move by picking R – Truth on his shoulders and by slamming his back hard on the ring floor. Sheffield then grabbed R – Truth and banged his head on the top turn buckle. He then tagged in Otunga to keep the fresh man in the ring.
R – Truth welcomed Otunga by slamming Otunga’s head on the ring floor. Both wrestlers were down and were crawling to their respective corners to tag in their partners. R – Truth succeeded in tagging Morrison who entered the ring to deliver a stylish drop kick to Otunga’s face. Otunga was lucky as he succeeded to tag in the big Skip Sheffield.
The big Skip Sheffield was all geared up to end the match by delivering high powered moves. He waited for John Morrison to get up and then delivered his trademark clothesline. A clothesline is a normal move in professional wrestling but Sheffield has made it all the more deadly by adding more power to it. That was it as Sheffield went for the cover and the referee counted to three with both of Morrison’s shoulders touching the ring floor.
It was a devastating loss for the tag team of John Morrison and R – Truth. They have lost many important matches since their loss at Wrestle Mania XXVI against Big Show and The Miz. Skip Sheffield and David Otunga raised their hands in victory as they cemented their place as an integral part of Nexus. They showed the wrestling fans that they were not the weakest link in Nexus and they had the courage and determination to survive in singles matches as well as tag team competitions.
