WWE Update: Chris Jericho vs. Wade Barrett
Everyone was eagerly anticipating the appearance of Nexus on Monday Night RAW. Wrestling fans wanted to see the expression of Nexus after losing the match against team WWE at Summer Slam. It was the first time that Nexus had to appear in the ring after losing a fight. Rather than showing any remorse, the leader of Nexus, Wade Barrett said that the defeat has made them stronger. He said that Nexus will resurface again after the loss and will target more wrestling superstars. However, Wade also said that any weak link in Nexus would be eliminated and all Nexus members including him would have to prove their worth if they wish to stay in the group.
The anonymous General Manager of RAW sent an email to the ring announcer, Michael Cole. The anonymous General Manager said that if Nexus wishes to test its power than all of its members will compete against members of WWE team in singles and tag team matches. Any Nexus members losing his individual match would be banished from the group. He said that all Nexus members would be allowed to choose their own matches but the leader of Nexus, Wade Barrett would compete in a singles match against his former pro, Chris Jericho.
It was a high stake match for Wade Barrett and he needed to win it at all costs. A loss meant that Wade would be stripped off his leadership of Nexus. It was time for Wade Barrett to put some action behind his words. Wade had defeated the world’s strongest man, Mark Henry and he knew that he had the power to defeat the first ever undisputed champion and his pro, Chris Jericho.
Both wresters faced off in the ring and waited for the sound of the ring bell. The match started as Chris Jericho cornered Wade and delivered punches to his abdomen and face. Chris then delivered a Suplex to slam Wade Barrett’s back on the ring floor. Jericho was on a roll and he wanted to finish the match as early as possible to prove his worth to wrestling fans. Jericho then delivered a stylish drop kick to Barrett’s jaw and knocked him down. Jericho then took the fight outside the ring and kicked Barrett right on his head. It seemed for a moment that Barrett would lose the match and would be stripped of his Nexus leadership.
Then Wade Barrett proved that why he is the leader of Nexus, as he banged Jericho’s back on the ring corner. Jericho then trapped Barrett in the submission hold, Walls of Jericho. It was the moment when many thought that Barrett would tap out and lose the match. However, Barrett insisted to fight on and reached the ropes to break the submission hold. Barrett then knocked out his former mentor by delivering a huge kick to Jericho’s face. Just when both wrestlers were ripping each other apart, Jericho tried to finish the match and attempted to deliver the Code Breaker. Wade Barrett was quick in his attack and caught Jericho in mid air to avoid the carnage.
That was the time when Wade Barrett scored his first singles victory against a former World Champion. Wade delivered his wrestling finisher by grabbing Chris Jericho from his shoulders and by slamming his back hard on the ring floor. It was over as Wade went for the cover and the referee counted to three with both of Jericho’s shoulders touching the ring floor.
The victory meant that Wade Barrett has survived as the leader of Nexus. It was also a signal to the RAW roster that Nexus may have lost at Summer Slam but its members have every right to fight at big league. It is certain that Nexus will continue to bring havoc to RAW since their leader has gained confidence by defeating Chris Jericho is a singles wrestling match.
