WWE Update: The Miz cashes in Money in the Bank briefcase to gain the glory
It proved costly for the Viper, Randy Orton, to defend his title twice in successive nights when The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to face the WWE Champion at Monday night’s episode of the longest-running weekly
primetime episodic television series, WWE Raw.
As the show kicked off, Michael Cole introduced the newest member of the Raw announcing team: the Straight Edge Society leader, CM Punk. Nexus stepped up to the ring, led by Wade Barrett, and pointlessly started cursing John Cena
for Barrett’s defeat at the hands of Randy Orton the night before at Survivor Series. Barrett was of the view that no official in the history of the game had ever touched any competitor and it was Cena who threw him at Randy Orton for an RKO. He demanded a
rematch for the title shot, to which the anonymous Raw General manager responded in his favour. As soon as the match got underway, Orton gained control. Seeing this, the cowardly members of Nexus came in and surrounded the ring for a possible disqualification
to the Viper’s advantage. As Nexus were manhandling Orton, John Cena came in out of nowhere, to the utter amazement of WWE fans, and toppled his former leader with an Attitude Adjustment, thus helping Orton to retain his title.
It was announced earlier tonight that the qualifying matches for WWE King of the Ring 2010 would be taking place. First up was the Celtic Warrior Sheamus, who went one-on-one against R-Truth. It was a piece of cake for the Irishman,
who hit the High Cross over R-Truth to fix a place in next week’s qualifying match.
The Miz was supposed to compete against Big Zeke, Ezekiel Jackson, for the qualifying match for King of the Ring, but before the match officially started, the Miz’s apprentice Alex Riley announced that the Miz was suffering from
an anxiety attack and Riley would replace him. Riley had to suffer at the hands of Big Zeke, who scored the pin with the Book of Ezekiel.
The legendary John Cena was up for a farewell address to the WWE Universe after being fired a night before at Survivor Series. Having served the federation for nine straight years, Cena was proud of his profession and the justice
he enacted as a special guest referee at the WWE Championship. In the end, Cena paid homage to all his fans out in the arena by saluting them from all corners. Legends like John Cena are not born everyday, and it will take the WWE long to replace him with
someone of his class.
The United States Champion Daniel Bryan continued his winning streak on Monday Night Raw by beating Ted DiBiase with the LeBell Lock, advancing to the next round of King of the Ring. After his win, Nikki Bella came running down
to lift her boyfriend’s hand in the air as the two celebrated the victory.
The Guru of Greatness John Morrison was victorious for the second time in two nights when he took on Tyson Kidd in a match to determine the qualifier for King of the Ring. Young Tyson definitely gave Morrison a tough time in the
ring with a series of punches and kicks. But it was John Morrison’s Starship Pain that secured the pin at the end.
Orton may have saved his gold a number of occasions but miracles do not happen often. Nexus were yet again on a roll and aiming for serious revenge, which they got. While they savagely beat Orton over the canvas, the Miz seized
the gilded opportunity to cash in his briefcase containing the contract at a title shot. Despite valorous efforts by Orton, a Skull Crushing Finale was way too much for him to bear, with The Miz proving to the entire WWE just why he is so “awesome”.
