WWE commemorates the ninth anniversary of former WWE star Davey Boy Smith's death
The WWE celebrated the life and achievements of former wrestling star, Davey Boy Smith, who became famous for the ring name “The British Bulldog”. Smith passed away due to a heart attack on May 18, 2002 while he was living in Invermere British Columbia.
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) decided to commemorate the death anniversary of Smith in a generous way. WWE will pay tribute to the performances by Smith during his career with the WWE in upcoming Raw and SmackDown events. WWE has already honoured him
as “one of the most physically impressive individuals in WWE history ever”. A DVD on the classic memories of “The British Bulldog” has been created and it will be uploaded to the WWE website soon.
Smith was a British wrestler who stood six feet and one inch tall and weighed 115 kilograms. He was born in England’s city Golborne on November 27, 1962. He worked with various wrestling companies including Stampede Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling,
All Japan Pro Wrestling and World Wrestling Federation. Smith, with his ring names “Young David” and “The British Bulldog”, worked for 10 years in different time durations with the WWE. He successfully gained almost all the championship belts individually.
The WWE Championship was the only title that eluded Smith during his career.
During his time with the WWF, Smith fought with all top ranked superstars including The Rock, Shawn Michael, Owen Hart, Diesel and Triple H. He was a two-time winner of the WWF Pay-Per-View Royal Rumble. Smith was married to the daughter of Stu Hart, Diana
Hart Smith, in 1984. Diana and Smith have two children, Harry and Georgia. Smith’s son Harry is working with WWE with his ring name “David Hart Smith”. DH Smith is working with the Monday Night Raw brand of the WWE.
In 2000, Diana divorced Smith because of personal disputes. At the same time, Smith was involved in a drug use case that caused his release from the WWF. In 2002 Smith died because of a serious heart attack.
The WWE is featuring a documentary showcasing the Hart Family on Smith’s death anniversary. The three DVD set will explore the Hart family including Shawn Michaels, Smith, Bret Hart, Owen Hart and their children.
Smith’s ex-wife Diana Hart Smith posted her comments on twitter, “Nine years without Davey. Seems like he’s still here, especially when I see Harry and Georgia. I’m so glad for YouTube and DVD’s so the world can see how incredible he was”. She further said,
“I miss Davey very much…, more and more as time goes on. He is irreplaceable…, so big, strong, athletic, handsome, talented in the ring and so funny too!”
The British Bulldog will keep living on in the hearts and minds of fans for many years to come.
