WWF Historic Wrestle Mania XVIII Match– The Rock Vs Hulk Hogan
Perhaps it was the match of the century when the two top dogs of the wrestling world clashed with each other in a fight worth remembering. These two wrestlers made wresting what it is today. It was the legendary Hulk Hogan, the man revolutionizing the wrestling world in 1980s and 1990s, who fought with the most beloved and electrifying man of the wrestling world, the people’s champion, The Rock. No one ever imagined that wrestling fans will have the privilege to see a match of such magnitude.
This all started when Hulk Hogan came became back to World Wrestling Federation (WWF) after years of fighting in another wrestling body called the World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Hulk Hogan who is considered as one of the best wrestlers of all time was the main person in creating the phenomenon of Hulkamania. Hulkamania which made Hulk Hogan an international celebrity also took him to new levels of success. After almost a decade of absence this great legend returned to WWF to fight on the biggest stage of them all called the Wrestle Mania.
After Hulk Hogan entered the ring, he realized that almost everything had changed. There was another wrestling legend, who was followed by millions and millions of fans around the world. That wrestling legend was none other than the people’s champion, The Rock. The Rock became famous because of his elite fighting skills and electrifying manoeuvres in the ring. The Rock came in the ring along with Hulk Hogan and challenged him to a match. Rock said that the match will determine the best ever in the history of professional wrestling. The Rock knew that this match will headline the biggest sporting event of the professional wrestling world.
The crowd was on its feet and was eagerly waiting for a response from Hulk Hogan. After pausing for few moments Hulk Hogan agreed for the match and that was the point when everyone went ecstatic. Though everyone knew that the match will be huge and will be remembered for ages but the big question was determining the winner of the match. Many fans bought the tickets for Toronto, Canada where this match was going to take place at Wrestle Mania.
It did not take long for Hulk Hogan and Rock to start the match. Instead of starting the match by delivering simple punches, both wrestlers executed difficult manoeuvres in the ring and tried to knock each other down. No one had the opportunity to completely dominate the match, as both wrestlers fought for respect, fame and glory. After intense fighting and knock out blows, suddenly Hulk Hogan pushed The Rock towards the ring and then delivered his boot to the face of The Rock.
It seemed for a moment that Hulk Hogan will win the match, as he ran in the ring to execute his wrestling finisher called the “Leg Drop”. In this finisher, Hogan jumps in the air and lands on the neck of his opponent. However, The Rock rolled out at the last moment and Hulk Hogan landed on the ring floor. That was the moment when The Rock grabbed Hulk Hogan and executed his wrestling finisher called the “Rock Bottom” by slamming him on the ring floor. Instead of going for the cover and finishing the match, The Rock executed the most electrifying move in the history of professional wrestling called “The People’s Elbow”. The Rock ran in the ring and then stopped to drop his elbow on the chest of Hulk Hogan. It was all over as The Rock went for the cover and the referee counted to three with both shoulders of Hulk Hogan touching the ring floor.
The Rock won the match but everyone rose with respect to cheer for both Hulk Hogan and the Rock, as they were truly the legends of professional wrestling.
