Question:

WWII era bombs in west Texas?

I don't understand how we could have had a bomb here. Any ideas?

  1. The area might have been used for bomb practise or a bomb range. Meaning flight crews would practise their bombing run techniques by dropping bombs in that area. There is an area near here called Bald Head Island that was used as a bomb range.


  2. During WW!! the Army had about 20 air bases in Texas alone; several would have had bombing ranges nearby for training and proficiency purposes for various kinds of aircraft.

There were bombing ranges all over the US, Canada, and the UK where aircrews learned, and practiced bombing targets.  Even today 15-20% (about one-in-six) bombs do not work (poor manufacturing) so there are thousands of bombs, mines, and artillery shells all over the world that are sitting live.
