Wachenfeld Bradley clinches Men’s 1500m freestyle gold medal: Day one – 2011 YMCA Championships
Wachenfeld Bradley of SomersetHills-NJ pocketed the gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle meet on the opening day of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Long Course Championships in Atlanta, on Monday, July 25.
The YMCA Championships are a four-day swimming competition, which will conclude on Thursday after the completion of all swimming events in the Men’s and Women’s category.
Bradley was the most phenomenal distant freestyle swimmer, as he claimed the title of the event, by submitting a time of 16 minutes and 16.53 seconds in the final rounds. He was followed by 17-year-old Shane McKenzie of Tri-Hampton-PA, who stayed nearly
two seconds behind Bradley and followed him on the victory stand, by reporting in a time of 16 minutes and 18.67 seconds.
The podium was completed with the presence of Matt O'Donnell of Sarasota-FL, who completed his race in a third fastest time for the bronze medal, with an effort of 16 minutes and 25.51 seconds.
In the meantime, the fourth fastest spot of the swim was captured by 16-year-old Matthew Moen of Wilton-CT, who stayed only 0.38 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 16 minutes and 25.89 seconds. He was followed by O’Donnell’s team-member,
John Pelton, who remained 4.90 seconds behind Moen and clocked a time of 16 minutes and 30.79 seconds for fifth position. Kyle Kemp of Middle Tyger-SC was the sixth position holder of the event, as he concluded his swim and touched the finishing wall in a
time of 16 minutes and 31.53 seconds.
Tate Warden of Huntington-WV was the seventh best finisher of the thirty-lap race, as he produced a time of 16 minutes and 32.99 seconds. He was followed by Christian Josephson of Countryside-OH, who stayed nearly three seconds behind him and secured the
eighth position, with a timing of 16 minutes and 35.03 seconds.
In addition, the session concluded after the completion of all swimming events, while the position holders received awards and accolades for their immaculate swims in the long distance freestyle swim.s
