  1. Maybe the test was really hard and some kids were unprepared and not ready. Its not the teachers fault its the students. And most kids probably didn't study or even listen in class.

  2. It is an interesting one.

Sometimes it could be that students are not studying hard enough, although from your description that doesn't sound like the case.

I know some teachers like to give hard tests to 'push' students. This may be the case, where she wants you to see your low marks and therefore push yourself to get better in the next test. This means that theoretically if you sit any external exams you would do better. Unfortunately this has been proven over and over again to be a poor motivate, as it can damage the confidence and motivation of a lot of students.

Sometimes the subject material can be just hard. This may or may not be the case, but judging by the fact it is multiple classes it probably isn't

Sometimes the test given is dictated by someone else. As a teacher, I can think of an example where we were handed a test that was far to hard for our class, and didn't reflect their learning. If she has no choice, she has no choice.

It could also be her ability to teach. I am wary of this one however, because with things sch as textbooks, some students should still pass well, which doesn't sound like it is happening here, so it does sound more like a hard test/ a harshly marked test, rather than simply teaching that is not up to standard (It could be both however).

I would try talking to her, if you feel that she is approachable and will listen. If not I would look at going to someone else in the school, such as a guidance counselor. I would bring examples of your own work and tests, showing the difference in subject. I would also try to bring some sort of class median, to show that it is an across the board thing. I would also talk to my parent, especially if these tests count toward your final grade, as it is not fair that you are penalised by the fact that someone else made the test too hard.

  3. Someone is not doing their job - wether that's the teacher or the students is hard to say.  You haven't provided enough info.  Is this one test or all year long?  Is this a pattern for the teacher or something new?

  4. I think that either:

    1.  She has a room full of students who don't study

    2.  She doesn't know how to teach or how to make a subject interesting

    3.  Both

  5. I'd think she has a bunch of lazy students!

  6. I think the students should not make excuses and blame the teacher. But I also think that perhaps the teacher is not taking into consideration the amount of other classes that the student is taking and therefore can not devote all the energy and time into one class. That rule of thought only applies to high school. In college no teacher cares how many classes you are taking and it doesn't matter if you fail because they don't care.

  7. she is a good teacher who is teaching some dumb students!

  8. she has bad students, or she is a very hard and strict teacher.

  9. My first year teaching, I gave a test that a large percentage of my kids didn't pass.  Now, mind you, I also had 2 100's.  But, because so many did so poorly, I felt that I, as their teacher, had failed to ensure that they knew the material as well as I wanted them to.  So, in that case, I retaught and retested, with much better results.
