Wade Phillips' son deals with the coach's sacking
A number of the Dallas Cowboys’ players and personnel were directly impacted by the firing of head coach Wade Phillips this past Monday, 8 November.
But there are probably very few who are closer to the situation than the former head coach’s son, Wes Phillips, who continues to serve as the team’s quality control and offensive assistant.

Although he acknowledged that his father essentially left him in the dark regarding his job security, Wes figured that Wade was on the hot seat on account of the Cowboys’ 1-7 start to the season.

"It’s tough to see your father get fired, no matter whatever anybody else wants to say," Wes said, according to
ESPNDallas.com.
"At the same time you know it going into this business, particularly when you accept a head coaching job. If things don’t go well you will be the one to take the fall. I’ve been around it before, he’s been fired before. Obviously, I haven’t been on that
staff at the time, so that’s been an adjustment. But we’re ready to go forward."

Still, Wes, who believes Wade would love to continue coaching elsewhere should the opportunity arise, reflected on his father’s current situation.
"He’s doing good as can be. I’m sure he’s a little dejected and a little upset we didn’t do better. First and foremost, he’s always been a guy to say, 'Hey, I didn’t prepare them well enough and I didn’t get them to play.'"

Wes, however, isn't the only one who’s been devastated by Wade’s recent dismissal. There are other current Cowboys, like linebacker Keith Brooking and defensive end Igor Olshansky, who had previously played for Phillips elsewhere and gave their former head
coach their full support.

"I’m a Wade Phillips guy," Brooking told the media, according to ESPNDallas.com. "Yeah, I’m disappointed he didn’t finish the job he set forth in the beginning. This league is about change and if you’re not getting the job done, as I said it before
this is a performance-based business. If you’re not performing at a [high] level, coaching [and] playing, someone will replace you."
