Wade likely to upset Haddin’s place with upcoming Test chance – Cricket News Update
With veteran wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 out of Australia’s upcoming Test series against the West Indies, Matthew Wade’s chances of securing a permanent place for himself on the squad for extended-overs series look promising.
Wade was initially included in the Test squad as Haddin’s back-up, but the elder player was forced to back out of the tour owing to personal reasons, due to which Wade will get a chance to make his international Test debut. If impressive enough, his performances
may prompt selectors to retain him on a permanent basis.
However, Wade has admitted that while Haddin’s sudden departure is an “unfortunate and a sad situation,” he is not looking too far ahead, and concentrating solely on performing well in the Test series.
“Every time you get a chance to show what you've got for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 you're trying to do your best,” Wade said. “I'm just going to concentrate on these three games and look no further.”
“Hopefully I do get the opportunity to play and then do well in these three games, but if I look too far down the track it won't help me out at all.”
The 24-year-old made a promising debut in the Commonwealth Bank series earlier this year in February, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Melbourne after he was picked for the first bracket of the tri-series. He went on to open for the side and score a 67 which won him the
Player of the Match award.
Owing to subsequent performances with the bat and behind the stumps, which were similarly solid, the left-hander was retained for the remainder of the series, with Haddin’s future thrown into sudden uncertainty.
The Windies tour marked a chance for the 34-year-old to make a comeback into the squad, but family reasons compelled him to fly back home without having played a single match.
After having gained some valuable experience in the Caribbean during the limited-overs leg of the tour, Wade looks all set to make a place for himself on the Test squad.
“To get a little bit of experience under these conditions has been great for me and hopefully will hold me in good stead for the rest of the tour,” he said.
The Aussie Test team will be playing a practice match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board President's XI from April 2-4 at the Three Ws Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, before they shift to the Kensington Oval for the first Test of the 3-match series, due
to commence on April 7.
