Tottenham Hotspur may have hit a stumbling block in their attempts to permanently sign Manchester City’s Togolese striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526, who is understood to be unwilling to take the pay cut in order to join the Spurs.
Adebayor has reportedly threatened to see out the remainder of his contract with Manchester City after he learnt that he will have to take a £3 million-a-year pay cut to join Tottenham.
Adebayor was signed from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 by City in 2009 for an astounding fee of £25 million. The Togolese forward had a decent first year with City, scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances, but has since fallen out of favour and pushed down the pecking order. Adebayor
has not appeared in a City jersey for almost a year and a half, having spent two loan spells at Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
The forward had a very impressive loan spell with Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 17 goals in 33 appearances for the North London club. His loan spell saw him become a fan favourite at White Hart Lane and it is understood that new manager Andre Villas-Boas is
keen on bringing the striker to the Lane on a permanent deal, especially considering how short staffed Spurs currently are in the striker department.
Adebayor’s move to Tottenham seemed imminent up until last week with reports in England claiming that he will sign for Spurs in a £6 million deal and take a £3 million per annum wage cut, with Spurs also offering him a massive sign on fee.
However, today, sources in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 say otherwise and it is understood that the Togolese is unhappy with the details of the proposed transfer and is unwilling to move to London.
A close friend of Adebayor said:
“Manu is digging his heels in and I don’t think this is going to be sorted any time soon.”
“He’s the sort of guy who will see out his contract rather than cave in.”
Adebayor currently earns £175,000-a-week at the Etihad Stadium, and it comes as no surprise to why he would be willing to take a pay cut and join Tottenham, who are currently unable to match his wages.
